Stripe Connect vs. a direct merchant account — which to pick when.
HubWho supports both Stripe Connect and a direct merchant account via Authorize.net or NMI. You can connect both and pick per-invoice. Most agencies start with Stripe Connect and add a direct merchant later if their volume warrants it.
Stripe Connect
Setup time: 30 minutes to a few hours (Stripe runs identity verification).
Card rate: 2.9% + 30¢ standard.
ACH rate: 0.8% capped at $5 (Stripe ACH or Plaid-linked).
Best for: agencies under ~$200K/year card volume, or anyone who wants to go live today.
Direct merchant (Authorize.net / NMI)
Setup time: 2–5 business days for underwriting.
Card rate: depends on your underwritten rate — typically 2.3–2.7% all-in.
ACH rate: eCheck.Net flat per-transaction (typically $0.25–$0.75).
Best for: agencies with $200K+/year card volume, or those who already have a merchant relationship at competitive rates.
Running both
Connect both in Settings → Integrations. Then route specific clients to either processor — useful when you have a few enterprise accounts on direct merchant and the long-tail on Stripe.
